and Immersion Retreats
with Lama Shenpen Drolma
January 2010
Rigdzin Ling, Junction City, California
For the power of peace to touch every person, community and nation on this earth, it must radiate out from a profound peace within our own minds. The Bodhisattva Peace Training, developed by Tibetan meditation master H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, makes accessible to people of all religions and walks of life the profound methods of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition for awakening the positive qualities of wisdom and compassion—the basis of enduring peace—inherent in each of us.
Participants are guided step by step to recognize and transform the mental habits that perpetuate conflict and impede our efforts to be of greatest possible benefit to others—at work, through service or activism, in family and community. The methods learned through this training powerfully antidote despair, fatigue and burn-out. They also help us gain competence in bringing others together to solve problems respectfully and harmoniously.
Bodhisattva Peace Training
January 1st (at 7pm) – January 3rd, 2010
Immersion Retreats
Immersion Retreat I: January 4th – 9th, 2010
Immersion Retreat II: January 10th – 14th, 2010
Following the Bodhisattva Peace Training, Lama Shenpen will offer the first two in a series of seven “Immersion Retreats” for the ongoing study and practice of bodhicitta, the awakened heart/mind. These retreats are open to anyone who has attended a Bodhisattva Peace Training and is sincerely interested in deepening their practice of bodhicitta. These retreats also form a part of the curriculum of Iron Knot Institute for those aspiring to qualify as certified facilitators to offer the Bodhisattva Peace Training in their own communities and professional networks. Participants will need to attend all Immersion Retreats in order, as the Immersion Retreat curriculum is sequential and progressive.
The Immersion Retreat curriculum fosters understanding of the practice of bodhicitta, emphasizing contemplation and meditation practices that are indispensible to integrating the teachings and experiencing transformation. As with the Bodhisattva Peace Training, all Immersion Retreats include training in meditation practices introduced in Change of Heart: The Bodhisattva Peace Training of Chagdud Tulku and in traditional Mahayana Buddhist texts. There will be ongoing discussion and informal meditation sessions designed to help with integrating the teachings into daily life.
