H.H. Katok Getse Rinpoche is a highly esteemed incarnate lama of the Katok branch of the Nyingma lineage. He was recognized as a tulku by His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa, the previous Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and Adzom Gyalsé Rinpoche. From a very early age, he received teachings and empowerments from Dudjom Lingpa’s grandson Tulku Nyila, Khenchen Jigmé Puntsok Rinpoche, Adzom Drukpa, Katok Moktsa Rinpoche, Khenpo Ngakchung, and H.H. the Dalai Lama.
H.H. Getse Rinpoche has done many years of retreat, taught widely throughout Asia and is well known for his mastery of the Dzogchen approach. Fulfilling a request made by Chagdud Rinpoche, Katok Getse Rinpoche serves as the head lama of Katok Ritrod, Chagdud Gonpa’s retreat center in Parping, Nepal. This is his fourth visit to the United States.

Nang-jang: Buddhahood Without Meditation***

Buddhahood Without Meditation, widely known by its subtitle, Nang-jang (Refining Apparent Phenomena), presents the view of the Great Perfection through the approach known as t’hreg-chhod (cutting through solidity). It is a direct transmission so powerful that just hearing it read aloud ensures that the listener will escape the suffering of cyclic existence. The nineteenth-century master Thrag-t’hung Dudjom Lingpa received these teachings in visionary dialogue with fourteen enlightened beings, including Avalokiteshvara, Vajrapani, Longchenpa, and Saraha.

Last year, H.H. Getse Rinpoche taught this text based on the structural analysis and outline composed by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche. This year, he will teach from the outline and commentary composed by Pema Lungtok Gyatso, a close disciple of Dudjom Lingpa.

"...the words of this text are the 'relics of the dharmakaya.' … [They] may be read by people once they have received the teachings personally from a lama who holds this lineage…. If this condition is met, there is no doubt that one will emerge victorious in the battle with counterproductive circumstances and obstacles, and that supportive circumstances will bring benefit immediately in this lifetime and on into the future." —H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche

***Completion of a ngondro, or permission from one’s lama, is required to attend this teaching.***

August 14 – 31 ~~ Teachings on the T'hröma Nagmo Ngondro
H.H. Getse Rinpoche will continue teaching from Pema Lungtok Gyatso’s Ocean of Nectar, a commentary on the Dudjom Lingpa T’hröma Nagmo cycle. This series of teachings began in the summer of 2009, and will include, over time, an extensive treatment of the T’hröma ngondro which will greatly aid practitioners who are undertaking any ngondro practice within the Nyingma tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism, as it will address the general key points of practice.

Participation for the entire teaching is not required. Participants may attend at any time(s) during the month.
