The Bodhisattva Peace Institute is a residential and virtual community committed to upholding the practice of good heart as offered in the Bodhisattva Peace Training developed by H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche.
The foundation of the Bodhisattva Peace Institute (BPI) is the Bodhisattva Peace Training (BPT). This training makes accessible to people of all religions and walks of life the profound methods of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition for awakening the positive qualities of wisdom and compassion inherent in each of us. A bodhisattva is one who is committed to uprooting suffering and establishing the unceasing welfare and ultimate awakening of every living being. By cultivating our inherent qualities of love and compassion, we can give rise to bodhicitta — the awakened mind of wisdom and compassion and source of all positive qualities. This enhances the effectiveness and depth of our efforts to benefit others.
Rinpoche's aspiration was that the teachings contained in the Bodhisattva Peace Training would radiate out into the world, like one candle lighting the next, until the whole world was filled with light. For this reason he and his student Lama Shenpen Drolma conceived of a program that would nourish the genuine cultivation and deepening of this intrinsic good heart. His wish was that such a program would capture the authenticity, depth and continuity of the training that he received from his teachers who, in turn, received it from their teachers, in an unbroken lineage dating back 2,500 years to the words of the Buddha himself.
Lama Shenpen compiled and edited Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's Bodhisattva Peace Trainings into the book Change of Heart, which incorporates many dialogues that took place between Rinpoche and students from a variety of religious, political and occupational backgrounds.
The BPI offers Bodhisattva Peace Trainings at the Bodhisattva Peace Institute Headquarters at Iron Knot Ranch in southern New Mexico as well as other venues across the U.S. upon request. Also offered is a series of nine Bodhicitta Immersion Retreats, monthly conference call support, weekly and bi-weekly in-person and virtual Change of Heart practice groups, and other forms of peer support.

Through this work, may the aspiration of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche be fulfilled: that the light of wisdom and compassion radiate outwards, like one candle illuminating the next, until the entire world is filled with light.
