The month of Saga Dawa (May 27—June 25)—is observed throughout the Buddhist world as a sacred time, and celebrates the anniversaries of Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and paranirvana. Due to the power of the Buddha’s blessing, both virtue and non-virtue are multiplied 100,000 times. This year, the month begins on May 27 and culminates on June 10th, Saga Dawa Düchen, which celebrates Shakyamuni Buddha's enlightenment and paranirvana.
Anything we can do to increase our practice, our generosity, and our activities for the benefit of others during this time will be of great benefit to our path as well as to all beings.
We will offer butter lamps daily and tsog on June 5 at 9:00 am MDT as we begin our summer retreat (join us by zoom), as well as tsog on June 10th, Saga Dawa Düchen (no broadcast), both in the context of Tendrel Nyesel, a terma of Terton Sogyal. The profound practice of Tendrel Nyesel can help reverse inauspicious interdependence, dissipate inauspicious occurrences, and establish auspicious interdependence in our efforts to practice dharma and benefit others.
Iron Knot Ranch will close for summer retreat on June 5th. You may participate by sending offerings for tsog and butter lamps as we commemorate this special occasion. Please email prayers@ironknot.org with the details and your dedication so we can be sure to include it during our practice sessions.
